In a recent post, the EWC Commission announced the Title Defender Rule, under which winners of each game-specific tournament at the 2025 EWC will be granted automatic qualification for the 2026 tournament in their respective game.

In order for an organisation (or club) to officially receive their automatic qualification spot, they will need to retain at least one player from the 2025 championship roster. If there are no active players from that roster, the qualification spot will pass to the next applicable recipient, depending on the game title.

For Overwatch and the OWCS, Team Falcons will be the recipients of the Title Defender Rule for winning the 2025 Midseason Champion. As of March 2026, Team Falcons are expected to maintain all of their championship-winning core, barring Kim "Proper" Dong-hyun and Jeong "Stalk3r" Hak-yong.

Although it is currently unclear how many teams will qualify for the 2026 Midseason Championship, fans are guaranteed to see Team Falcons defend their EWC title.

The 2026 Midseason Championship at the Esports World Cup will take place from July 29 to August 2.
