Gen. G removes Korean players, shifts to European roster
United Kingdom tank player Alexander “Tred” Madgwick-Smith has joined the roster along with support players Lewis “crispy” Beer and Robert “Skai” Lupsa. However, after an eight-month retirement, flex DPS player Jamie “BackBone” O’Neill has come back to Overwatch and joined Gen. G for Stage 3.
Stage 2 of the Overwatch Champions Series was up and down for Gen.G as the team saw themselves win just one map against teams that ended the stage higher than them. The team saw a noticeable drop off in performance following their impressive 5-2 Regular Season finish during Stage One. Gen. G finished just 3-4 in Stage 2nd failed to win a playoff game for the second stage in a row.
For crispy, this is his second stint with the team after a month away from the roster. While the duo of Tred and xzodyal are reunited from their time together on Team Peps. When these two were on the same roster in 2024, it resulted in Team Peps finishing third in the OWCS EMEA Stage 2 playoffs despite an opening round playoff loss to Spacestation Gaming that immediately sent the team to the lower bracket.
One big question surrounding this Gen. G roster is how Skai will fit within this team. He is one of two flex supports on the roster, enabling double flex support compositions and a potential avenue into more Wuyang prevalent lineups. The well travelled Romanian rounds out the support options for Gen.G.
These additions are a notable shift away from Korean players such as Kim “Mag” Tae-sung and Lee “WhoRU” Seung-jun. Leaving Head Coach Park “Crusty” Dae-hee and Assistant Coach Maeng “YaHo” Hyun-Hoare leading the all European roster.
