📝 Sean Miller to step down as head of Overwatch Esports

Sean Miller will step down from his role as Head of Overwatch Esports this week, bringing an end to a tenure that spanned multiple eras of the game’s competitive ecosystem.

Miller confirmed the news via social media, stating that Friday will mark his final day in the position as he moves on to pursue a new opportunity.

“It’s been a privilege to be part of Overwatch Esports across so many eras,” Miller said. “Every chapter has been unique, but the passion from this community has been constant.”

Miller’s tenure will likely be remembered for two things: the discontinuation of the fan-favourite Overwatch League, and, more importantly, his role in guiding the scene through one of its most significant structural shifts. Following the end of the Overwatch League, he oversaw the establishment of the OWCS, the current highest tier of competitive Overwatch.

With Miller’s departure, Fernando Valdez will step in as interim head of Overwatch Esports. “[Fernando’s] leadership and passion have been critical to everything from Overwatch World Cup to the OWCS Pre-Season Bootcamp this year,” Miller concluded. “He and the existing OW Esports team are the best of the best.”

Miller leaves at a time when the OWCS is continuing to establish itself, albeit with great momentum. Miller

hasn’t announced his next move yet, but his parting words are reassuring: “Overwatch Esports is in great hands…”
