OWCS Asia: Pacific pushed to October as the region's troubles mount
OWCS Pacific has often got the short end of the stick. In early 2025, concerns arose that WDG wouldn’t broadcast the games until fan outcry led to a last-second Thai broadcast. While the overall OWCS prize pool has gone down this year, Pacific has seen a 60% decline, dropping from $15,000 per stage in 2025 to a $6,000 prize pool for Stage 3. Originally, Pacific received two roster spots in OWCS Asia, but as of 2026, they now get a single spot, with their previous spot going to Japan.
The newest Pacific woes came on September 22, when WDG took to Twitter to announce that OWCS Pacific - originally slated to start on September 24 was delayed considerably. In the official announcement, WDG explained that due to “an ongoing regional network infrastructure issue,” the matches would need to be delayed to ensure fair gameplay. Because these infrastructure repairs are expected to take a long time, the games were pushed back to the end of October.
OWCS Pacific will now start on October 26 and run until November 3, 2026. Although the timeline has shrunk considerably, this new timetable still includes six matchdays, so the competition format, participating teams, and qualification pathway remain unchanged. WDG mentioned that further schedule adjustments may be necessary, but for now, OWCS Pacific is on, albeit later than normal.
