OWCS Fantasy: Who to keep after Cheeseburger's opener
Welcome back to the OWTV Fantasy preview! Congratulations to everyone who ordered a double Cheeseburger last week. It sure was worth every penny, but will the offer still be available this week?
If you haven’t read any of our previews, Here’s a quick reminder of our goal with these weekly previews: to offer thought-provoking options for your team, while keeping you up to date with any major developments that might impact OWCS Fantasy. We do this by breaking down the fixtures, highlighting players we think offer strong value, and sharing any other strategies we come up with. We’ll also play along each week with our own team, Fantasy Watchpoint, and explain the reasoning behind the roster we lock in.
Fixture review
If you’re looking to review the fixtures yourself, we’ve included a full Fixture Difficulty Rating (FDR) to help you visualise them and make your own decisions. We’ve pre-colored them according to our own opinions:
- Green indicates what we think should be a favoured match
- Yellow indicates a matchup that could go either way
- Red indicates little upset potential
Immediately, Profit’s Cheeseburger hit the ground running. We expected them to be good but not to the point of dropping no maps. This week we’ll find out whether those results were due to an overperformance by Cheeseburger or an underperformance by ZANSIDE GAMING.
Cheeseburger have an uphill battle against Team Falcons. This match, Falcons’ match against O2 Blast, and O2’s match against ZANSIDE this week will determine which team will most likely finish the season as the fifth-best Korean team.
The burgers will be feeding a certain Crazy Raccoon, who hit the ground running. We hope CR’s game vs T1 features an honest Winston mirror, as T1’s other game is going to be a less eventful series against Poker Face.
Poker Face and SEIJI ESPORTS (RTplz) have looked the worst so far, though SEIJI managed to land a jab at O2 Blast with SENTIER (PCM: 0.68) coming in for DOX (PCM: -0.18). However unlikely, they will have to survive whatever wild composition ZETA DIVISION is planning to roll out on.
Fantasy metawatch
Clearly the Overwatch Esports department did not plan the year’s schedule with patches in mind… We stand here again, clueless.
Last week, D.Mon was still moving like a demon, getting flown around by Jetpack Cat, nano’d by Ana, and dropped like a nuke. We witnessed some tanks playing D.Va, and every player known for being a Winston chad played at least a map of monkey.
The support players like Viol2t (PCM: 1.90) and Gamjung (PCM: 1.32) rolled out on Zenyatta on favourable maps. Kiriko saw some playtime on double-flex comps alongside Ana, or when Ana was banned.
The most popular DPS characters were Tracer, Cassidy, Shion, and Bastion. Funnily, Proper (PCM: 2.04) gave Junkrat a shot against the flying Falcons and won the map.
Expect the unexpected with the release of the new support hero Doctrine, and the reworks to Roadhog and Sombra becoming a support. We fully expect Viol2t to adopt Doctrine, and LIP (PCM: 0.43) played DPS Sombra one last time against ZANSIDE. Perhaps we might even see him try the new Sombra against Cheeseburger, thread carefully CH0R0NG (PCM: 2.95) owners.
The real winners of last week were the Cheeseburger assets owners. Despite being the highest owned player in the game before Week 1, Profit (PCM: 1.46) only managed to outscore Trest (PCM: 1.17). The real points came through the other three players. That’s something to keep in mind for week 3 and 4, though a punt for week 2 doesn’t sound as outlandish as it did prior to week 1.
Knife (PCM: 0.71) owners were very unlucky. He dropped a 15.5 bomb on his first map, then disappeared. He is still worth keeping despite the price fall, as he has two very farmable games this week. We could even see Mealgaru (PCM: 0.33) get more playtime this week, along with Jasm1ne (PCM: 1.21) and MAX (PCM: 1.07).
ZANSIDE were underwhelming. Kilo (PCM: -0.54) scored -10. They started off with Taejong (PCM: 0.28) as their Flex DPS but then subbed Becky (PCM: 0.47) so he might be the starter now. HEISER (PCM: 1.15) was not a D.Mon guy. His best scores were vs. CR when he played Mauga and Wrecking Ball. Perhaps HEESUNG gets a chance now?
Perr didn’t see any playtime. We’ve had a similar occurrence with A1IEN (PCM: 1.58), where he put in a massive performance and was benched the very next week. If A1IEN doesn’t get benched, he would be the best O2 Blast asset going forward.
Belosrea (PCM: 2.95) and SOMEONE (PCM: 1.98) have been points monsters on D.Mon for their price. Falcons broke their pattern and exclusively started SOMEONE and SP1NT (PCM: 0.90).
Cost-effective players
Tank: Fate, O2 Blast (cost: 18.5) (PCM: 1.19)
Two close games with massive point-scoring opportunities. If you missed out on Belosrea last week, you can take a chance on Fate replicating Belosrea’s numbers with the plan to switch to Belosrea next week.
DPS: K4ne, Cheeseburger (cost: 18) (PCM: 1.71)
You can argue against keeping the burgers for their tough Week 2 schedule, but the state of cost-effective DPS players is a bit dire right now. If K4ne goes up in price again next week, you might miss the train, and your best alternative would be A1IEN, who risks getting benched.
Support: TenTen, Cheeseburger (cost: 18.5) (PCM: 2.34)
The same logic we used for K4ne applies to TenTen, except TenTen is more negative-point-proof.
Honourable mention: SENTIER, SEIJI ESPORTS (cost: 17) (PCM: 0.68)
Ideal candidate for a slightly more expensive hole strategy, with the added bonus that he might also earn you some points.
OWTV Fantasy staff team
- Tank - SOMEONE (cost: 21) (PCM: 1.98)
- DPS - WuTian (cost: 18.5) (PCM: 1.41)
- DPS - ZEST (cost: 22) (PCM: 2.60)
- Support - CH0R0NG (cost: 22) (PCM: 2.95)
- Support - Gamjung (cost: 19) (PCM: 1.32)
Our last week’s roster got us to 55th place. However, with Mealgaru potentially playing more often, we decided to bring in SOMEONE. We hope the new patch doesn’t bring back Hanbin to the starting roster. At least for this week, the plan is to maximize gains on Falcons players, then jump on the Belosrea ship in Week 3.
We gained a +1 from ZEST, a +0.5 from SOMEONE, and a +1 from the Tenten, so we’re bringing in CH0R0NG. CR are destined to stomp, and he has been very consistent both gameplay-wise and fantasy-wise this year.
