📝 Weibo Gaming: New, improved, and ready to take on the world
“This year’s WBG is different,” Xu “Guxue” Qiulin recently said in the OWCS China broadcast’s post-match interview, after Weibo Gaming’s fourth consecutive stage win. “This year, I think we have a better chance.”

It can be difficult to rate Weibo Gaming compared to the other teams in Tokyo. Weibo stand head and shoulders above their domestic competition in OWCS China, where they haven’t lost a single match since the region was added to OWCS in 2025. Internationally, however, Weibo has never quite lived up to the hype. Their Top 4 finish at last year’s Champions Clash seemed promising, but the team floundered at the Midseason Championship and ultimately ended the year in 5th-6th place at the 2025 World Finals.
Still, “better than last year” is an apt description of the 2026 Weibo Gaming roster. The upgraded support line of Lee “LeeSooMin” Soo-Min and Oh “MAKA” Eun-seok offers greater flexibility for the team, and Chen “Sunzo” Cheng’s ability to play off tank heroes has solved the problem of Guxue’s main tank-centric hero pool. This new roster retains its core of Guxue, Huang “Leave” Xin, and Zheng “Shy” Yangjie—who are all older players now, at least in esports years—and adds some younger, fresher talent.
Last year, Weibo Gaming excelled in dive metas and struggled when the meta changed to favor other compositions, like Sym/Ram rush. Now, thanks to Sunzo, Weibo can finally play D.Va and Zarya comps. In the current Cat/Bastion meta, the team swaps between Sunzo’s off tanks and Guxue’s Mauga depending on maps and hero bans.

Weibo Gaming’s first opponent at the Champions Clash is Virtus.pro, a must-watch matchup that continues the Landon “Landon” McGee vs. Weibo rivalry. Will Weibo’s added depth and flexibility be enough to challenge Virtus.pro and other top teams from the big three regions of NA, EMEA, and Asia?
Guxue certainly seemed to think so. “I think Top 4 is good,” he said in his post-match interview when asked about his goals for the Champions Clash. “We’ll gradually improve as the season goes on, and get even better results at the final major in China.”
