Tanks and supports carry Korea Fantasy into Week 4

Welcome back to the OWTV Fantasy preview! The burgers have burnt the dish against T1, and O2 Blast missed their mark against Poker Face.

If you haven’t read any of our previews, here’s a quick reminder of our goals. We aim to offer thought-provoking options for your team, while keeping you up to date with any major developments that might impact OWCS Fantasy. We do this by breaking down the fixtures, highlighting players we think offer strong value, and sharing any other strategies we come up with. We’ll also play along each week with our own team, Fantasy Watchpoint, and explain the reasoning behind the roster we lock in.

Fixture review

If you’re looking to review the fixtures yourself, we’ve included a full Fixture Difficulty Rating (FDR) to help you visualise them and make your own decisions. We’ve pre-colored them according to our own opinions:

  • Green indicates what we think should be a favoured match
  • Yellow indicates a matchup that could go either way
  • Red indicates little upset potential

It's a tough week for Team Falcons. The truce between D0NGHAK and ChiYo is on hold this week as we now live in a world where D0NGHAK (PCM: 1.07) has a meek two-game win streak against ChiYo (PCM: 0.82).

The Crazy Raccoon vs. ZETA DIVISION matchup is also this week, which will surely lead to great Overwatch and hopefully greater scoreboards.

Cheeseburger couldn’t punch up against T1, but according to the scenarios feature on OWTV, they have a 90.4% chance of making top four. In classic Korean OWCS fashion, that doesn’t mean much yet, but for fantasy, the seeding tournament guarantees them three series, and they are inclined to give it their all since now the top four in Asia qualify for the World Finals in Guangzhou.

At the other end of the table, O2 Blast, ZANSIDE GAMING, SEIJI ESPORTS, and Poker Face all sit at a 1-5 record. Save for Poker Face, the other teams went full ouroboros: 1-1 against each other, as you can see in the FDR below. After getting 3-0’d four times in a row, PF finally hit back against O2. This week, they face the remaining two teams in the series, which could bring a high fantasy-scoring ceiling for all participating teams.

Fantasy metawatch

The Doctrine/Cat support duo dominated backlines. This is great news for fantasy, as both heroes are high scorers. This week, two of the top-scoring supports were flex supports. Korea’s rank 1 Lifeweaver player Viol2t (PCM: 0.61) brought the hero to the pro scene.

Flex DPS players are rejoicing on Tracer. While Sojourn and Cassidy dominated the hitscan slot with some Bastion cameos, Cassidy remains popular despite the removal of Cat-Noon.

Tank players reverted to their comfort picks, except for the one close game between O2 and PF, which was mostly D.Mon-centric with a bit of Orisa. Perhaps the tanks took the series for granted in the other games that ended 3-0.

LIP (PCM: 0.76) was benched in the game against PF rather than the one against Falcons, which could imply the LIP support is reserved for Avenger-level threats.

Taejong (PCM: 0.40) played alongside Becky (PCM: 0.35) instead of Kilo (PCM: 0.16). Perr (PCM: 0.19), SP1NT (PCM: 0.43), Jasm1ne (PCM: 0.36) and HEESUNG (PCM: 0.30) didn’t see a single minute of playtime.

This week’s top 10 scorers featured five tank players, four support players and ZEST (PCM: 0.99). The top 10 PCM-wise featured five supports, four tanks and K4ne (PCM: 0.80).

Only ZEST and HeeSang (PCM: 0.92) feature in both the top 10s over the course of the stage. Safe to say there aren’t many points in DPS.

Cost-effective players

Tank: SoLa, Poker Face (cost: 18) (PCM: 0.61)

SoLa scooped 49.5 points last week, 45.5 of them against O2 Blast. Considering their schedule, SoLa could either replicate his results from last week or, worst-case scenario, be the hole that lets you afford somebody like HeeSang (PCM: 0.92).

DPS: WuTian, O2 Blast (cost: 18.5) (PCM: 0.79)

The state of DPS players is dire, to say the least. K4ne (PCM: 0.80) outscored WuTian by 0.5 points over the course of the stage, so if you’re tight on budget and don’t have a vacant CB slot, we’ve narrowed it down for you.

Support: Bliss, T1 (cost: 21) (PCM: 0.91)

TenTen (PCM: 1.22) and CH0R0NG (PCM: 1.40) are the two most owned players in the game. If you want to go against the crowd, Bliss is a popular option currently sitting at 18.4% ownership.

Honourable mention: Trest, Cheeseburger (cost: 18.5) (PCM: 0.84)

The second highest scoring support after CH0R0NG (PCM: 1.40), and the fifth highest scorer this week across all roles. At 6.7% ownership as of writing, he makes a great differential with little risk. Perhaps it is time to invest in Trest.

OWTV Fantasy staff team

  • Tank - Belosrea (cost: 21) (PCM: 1.25)
  • DPS - LIP (cost: 20.5) (PCM: 0.76)
  • DPS - ZEST (cost: 22.5) (PCM: 0.99)
  • Support - CH0R0NG (cost: 23) (PCM: 1.40)
  • Support - TenTen (cost: 20) (PCM: 1.22)

Sitting at 72nd overall and topping the VIP leaderboard, we decided not to make changes since the team ain’t broke.

Everybody other than LIP rose in price. Our team value reached 108 this week. Our only concern for next week is LIP’s playtime. The best affordable option would have been WuTian (PCM: 0.79), whose team is likely to get stomped in both games, or knife (PCM: 0.55), who has been underwhelming this stage. We would rather take the risk on LIP.

Looking ahead, for the seeding tournament, we might drop Belosrea and LIP and get a Cheeseburger DPS alongside Bernar (PCM: 0.92) or D0NGHAK (PCM: 1.07) if the budget allows. You can always monitor our moves from the leaderboard.
