Spacestation Gaming: Shooting for the stars in Tokyo

Joao Mejia2 min read

Although their previous season featured many ups and downs, Spacestation Gaming ended the 2025 season finishing 7th-8th at the 2025 World Finals. Unsatisfied with a finish outside the podium, SSG looked to their 2026 campaign to take it up a notch from where they had left off.

When Geekay Esports released their North American roster and switched to EMEA, all their former players were left without a home. With championship aspirations in mind, Spacestation sent out the call and began their roster rebuild.

From Geekay came Denis "Lethal" Tari on the hitscan role, who showcased early mastery on one of the newest heroes, Emre. Having such a strong leader on the hitscan had Kamden "Sugarfree" Hijada flexing his hero muscles as well, which allowed the two to become one of the deadliest DPS duos in the region.

Also from Geekay came the support core of Benjamin "UltraViolet" David and Oliver "Admiral" Vahar. Both support players retained their flexibility with unorthodox support combinations and were largely credited with helping their former squad reach a Top 8 finish at the 2025 Midseason Championship. During Stage 1, this upgraded support line was pivotal in helping both the DPS and tank lines execute the true strength of their compositions.

Rounding out their roster was the continued strength of tank player Xander "Hawk" Domecq, who showcased further dominance on both Zarya and D.Va. By combining the strengths of their 2025 roster and the former Geekay core, Spacestation truly leveled up and found themselves qualifying for the Champions Clash as North America’s #2 seed.

However, while they secured a spot in the Champions Clash, it wasn’t perfectly clean in execution. Spacestation stood up strongly against the remaining four teams in the region, but ultimately found themselves trailing their growing rivals, the Dallas Fuel. In the Grand Finals, Spacestation only managed to take one map in an otherwise lopsided series.

Spacestation’s first opponent in Tokyo is the first-seeded team from Asia, ZETA DIVISION. This squad is largely seen as one of two favorites in the world to take first place on the podium, joined only by Twisted Minds from EMEA. Spacestation Gaming have their work cut out for them if they hope to advance further into the tournament. They will need to plug any holes still present in their play and take down a potential title contender right out of the gates.
